What is Benefil®?

  • Benefil® is a pre-expanded lightweight filler produced on site from a liquid base AMINOPLAST (amino-plastic resin). It can be poured, pumped or injected into holes, voids and interstitial spaces.

How fast can the material be placed?
  • Benefil® can be produced at a rate between 16 and 40 m3/hour depending on the application required.

How much does Benefil® weigh?
  • When Benefil® is produced it has a wet weight of between 120 and 150 kg/m3 depending on the material properties required.
Once dry this reduces to between 12 and 70 kg/m3.

How far can Benefil® be pushed through a void?
  • Up to 50 metres or more through pipes and other voids. Benefil® requires fewer access points than many other alternative grouts and fillings, resulting in substantial savings in time and cost of drilling and/or constructing new access points.

Can Benefil® be injected laterally or vertically?
  • Yes,
    either direction.

Is Benefil® environmentally friendly?
  • Yes.
Benefil® is inert, solvent free and non toxic. It can be recyclable for agriculture use or can be disposed of in land fill.

What is the compressive strength of the Benefil® material?
  • Pre-expanded Benefil® can be produced with a compressive strength between
50 kPa and 300 kPa. Concentrate Benefil® can be produced with much higher compressive strength.

Is Benefil® material flammable?
  • No.
At 345ºC it begins to carbonise. Benefil® has been classified as a material that will not feed fire.

How much disruption will there be to my site?
  • Absolutely minimal. Your site can usually remain open and operational, we just need enough room to park the Benefil® unit within 60 metres of the fill point.

Does Benefil® continue to expand?
  • No.
    Benefil® is pre-expanded before placement.

Does Benefil® shrink?
  • Yes,
but only a small amount and applying it under pressure largely counters this.

Do hydro-carbons or bacteria affect the Benefil® material?
  • No.
Benefil is resistant to hydrocarbons and most other chemicals.

Can a void be topped up at a later stage?
  • Yes,
    provided there are access points.

What happens to the Benefil® when it is injected into water or into a void that contains water?
  • Benefil® can be injected under water. When injected under pressure the material will force out residual water in the cavity. This assumes that residual water can pass through an escape point from the void.

Does Benefil® cause flotation of pipes in annular spaces?
  • No.
We know it doesn't. From our having watched via CCTV cameras we know that Benefil® does not cause pipes to float.

What if the Benefil® material has to be removed and disposed of later?
  • This is much easier than with concrete slurry or other grouts. Benefil® material can be removed and disposed of; usually using a high pressure jet of air or water, a gully sucker, excavator or spade.

Petro Chemical Industry

Is the Benefil® system approved by the Licensing Authorities?
  • Yes,
the system is approved throughout Europe and both the London and Dublin Fire Brigades.

How long will it take to make safe all my tanks?
  • We can inject up to 250 m3/day, which means that we will be finished in one working day.

How much disruption is there to my site during the injection?
  • The site can remain open during the injection, provided that there is room for a small lorry.

What will I have to do to prepare our tanks?
  • Nothing!
Provided that the tanks are free of product, we can do all the preparatory works on the day

If I want the tanks removed at a later date, can I do that?
  • Yes.
Benefil® filling makes the tank safe to handle and is advantageous since Benefil 2000 weighs only 22 kg (when dry) per m3.

How does the cost of Benefil® filling compare to alternative methods?
  • Benefil® filling costs are comparable with alternative methods, with the benefit of minimal interruption.

  • Bear in mind that there is no need to remove the tank lid, or the suctions or the vents.... we carry out the Benefil® injection through the existing fill-pipe.
